I live in London. I commute to my day job by tube, which means I am the target audience for free newspapers - the morning's Metro, and the two afternoon contenders, who resort to having people thrust them into your hand whether you want them or no, turning the evening's journey into a battle of skill and cunning in order to avoid them. I do pick up the Metro occasionally, but mostly I use my commuting time to read whichever book's hit the top of my 'to read' pile.
Since this article was published on Wednesday, I think I've had two dozen people text, email, or mention it to me.
Personally, Brokeback Mountain's more likely to leave me in a cloud of bleak depression than hot under the collar**, and I can't say I've noticed the UK lagging behind on the female enjoyment of m/m, but nevertheless, it's not a bad thing to have the genre advertised in the mainstream press, and if there were women out there who were feeling alone and shameful about their appreciation of man-on-man action who read the article and as a result get to enjoy themselves more then - it's all good.
*(yes, my subject line's from Blur's Boys and Girls, and yes, I might have remembered it wrong ...)
** (it's a beautiful film, and a beautiful piece of writing, but it's not exactly a glittering rom-com.)

'As one female fan put it: "One penis is good, two even better,"' he explains. 'They fancy men, they're turned on by men and so they're even more turned on by men with men - it's like "man squared".' -- Well put. :) It's long been observed that men love female on female action. Het porn is rife with it. We just shake our heads and smile, accepting it. Why is it so surprising that the reverse would also be true!?

I'm not 100% sure of their coverage of reader's 'why's, but 'man squared' is definately some of the attraction for some of us!
